KFokam Award for Science & Technology
Created by Dr. KAMMOGNE FOKAM, founder of KFokam Institute of Excellence, the KFokam Award for Science & Technology promotes applied research, technological innovation and high-impact entrepreneurship in Africa. It rewards solutions with an immediate application and a direct impact on people's lives.
The prizes of the 2017 edition were presented on 15 June 2017 at the institute's Emana campus in Yaoundé, before ministers, academics, students and researchers from across Africa. The winners were chosen by an international jury of teachers, researchers and business leaders.
Award categories
Best applied research and technological innovation
Innovative solutions with an immediate application and a direct impact on people's lives, with no age limit. At the 2017 edition, the winner received 10 million FCFA and the funding of their business plan, the runner-up 2 million FCFA and the funding of their business plan.
Best feasible business project
Rewards the initiative of young Africans aged 40 or under who have built a business plan. At the 2017 edition, the prizes were the same as in the research category.
Community Promotion Excellence Award
A special jury prize for the best technological find that helps communities. It is not a competition: anyone can nominate a project or an invention. At the 2017 edition, it came with 3 million FCFA.
Scholarships
Alongside the award, KFokam Institute of Excellence runs a scholarship facility to support eligible students in financing their studies. The admissions office gives the details of the scholarships open each year, who is eligible and how to apply.
